We're happy to tell you that Katniss has a new furever home. Please visit our Available cats Page to see the pups currently available.
Katniss and Prim are sisters and a bonded pair and must be adopted together. They are also both special needs as they have Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). They are both incredibly affectionate and love to play and cuddle. They are in a home with young children currently. They are also in a home a quiet, gentle dog. A home without a dog or with a gentle dog would be in their best interest. The home also has many other cats with different personalities, and they get along great with them all. Now on to the CH…Katniss is labeled as having moderate CH, and Prim having slightly more severe CH. Cerebellar Hypoplasia occurs when the cerebellum portion of the brain doesn’t develop completely, typically while in the womb. This is the portion of the brain that controls balance, coordination, and fine motor skills. They are also known as “wobbly cats” since they have trouble balancing when they walk. They also fall over easily when walking, playing, using the litter box. Katniss has slightly better coordination and Prim struggles more with walking and falling over more often. Katniss does best with a raised feeder/water station. Prim lays down to eat and drink and does best with shallow bowls on the floor. Both can walk into the litter box and Prim lays down to go potty. Surprisingly they quite rarely make messes on themselves however they may require occasional baths. They also require a litter box with a low entry and high sides for leaning support, and the box should be cleaned multiple times daily to reduce falling into a potty mess. CH is not contagious, another cat cannot catch CH, it is a birth malformation. Cats with CH live normal long lives as long as they are otherwise healthy. They do require extra care and supervision. Carpeted floors or rugs help them maneuver and make falls less harsh. Katniss and Prim should not be expected to maneuver stairs and will possibly need stairs gated or a home without stairs. Besides requiring extra attention and having more needs, they are incredibly fun sweet girls. They love to play, explore, and cuddle. They are also part of an Instagram family of CH cats/fosters/owners online. You can see many more pictures and videos on Instagram @CH_cat_house . CH Cat House will not be able to answer any adoption related questions and those must be directed to the OFS adoption personnel, however they can answer questions about the cats and the care they require.
